Welcome to Ms. Talik's ELA and Writing Page I'm very excited to be joining the WFCA family this year as your student's ELA and writing teacher! We have a challenging, but GREAT year ahead of us! We will be exploring many different genres of books, learning new reading skills, having book clubs, and completing writing projects. I can't wait!
I am Rochester, Minnesota born, and Raleigh, North Carolina raised. I lived here for 10 years before attending the University of North Carolina - Wilmington. I received my education degree and taught 3rd grade before deciding to move back to Raleigh (I missed it here too much). I am thrilled to be back in my hometown and able to teach only 10 minutes away from the schools I attended as a child. I love to play volleyball and disc golf, collect vinyl records, watch Netflix, read new books, play with my dog, and spend time with my family. My family is the most important thing to me. We love to play games, go camping and hiking, attend Carolina Hurricanes and Durham Bulls games, and compete in Wednesday night Trivia together. When I was growing up, I struggled as a reader and writer. I didn't see it then, but as a teacher, I now see that it wasn't only me. Many children struggle to understand and feel confident in their abilities as readers and writers. I had to learn tricks, how to work hard, how to read between the lines, and how to understand things in my own way. My struggles led me to love teaching reading and writing most. I feel that I'm able to connect with students who see reading and writing as a challenge, because I was in their shoes. I use my experience as a guide to support students in the ways they need most in order to feel confident and capable as readers and writers. I have high hopes for our students this year! I know that with a little hard work, the right mindset, and stepping out of our comfort zone, we WILL be able to achieve great things! |
